Anguilla Factbook and Antigua Factbook

For convenience, Anguilla and Antigua have been combined in this report.  They are presented together because 1) they have many similarities, including history and geographic location, and 2) there is limited information on both countries.

Anguilla and Antigua both have ties to Great Britain.  Antigua was a British colony until 1981 and now maintains a parliamentary monarchy.  Anguilla remains a British colony.

Both countries are located at the northern end of the leeward Caribbean islands.  Anguilla is a single island.  Antigua is comprised of 3 islands - Antigua, Barbuda, and an uninhabited island.  Anguilla has a population of 13,000, and Antigua has 68,000.  The people of both countries are almost entirely of Afro Caribbean origin.

Both countries are heavily dependent on tourism although Antigua supplements tourism income with some light industry.

Nearly everyone on the islands are classified as Christian.  British influence has left a significant number of Anglicans, but their number have been slowly shrinking.  Nearly 20% of the population is classified as evangelical, and their numbers are growing.  Unfortunately, many professing Christians do not demonstrate fruit in keeping with their profession.  Many have little to no relationship to the church.  Immorality and other social problems are on the rise.

Praise the Lord for those who carried the gospel to these islands and for the work He has done there.  Pray for those who do not have a true relationship with the Savior.  Pray for believers as they are isolated from the rest of the world.  The church has shown little missionary vision.  Pray for a growing vision to reach beyond their islands with the gospel.
